Good afternoon Colt families! We hope that you have had a wonderful long weekend. We look forward to welcoming the students back to school tomorrow for the final stretch of the school year! ¡Buenas tardes, familias de Colt! Esperamos que hayan tenido un maravilloso fin de semana largo. ¡Esperamos darles la bienvenida a los estudiantes mañana para la recta final del año escolar!

Thank you to those folks that came to our most recent School Council meeting on Thursday, May 15. We appreciate all of the support shown by the council for student learning at A.E. Cross. On June 10 and June 11, the A.E. Cross Parents’ Association is holding a Casino fundraiser at Pure Casino Calgary. They are looking for volunteers to help out with the casino for those two days. This particular fundraiser brings in thousands of dollars that goes to student learning at A.E. Cross School. If you can help out, a website has been created for parents to sign up.

Please help out if you can!

Additionally, in preparation for the fiscal year-end for the A.E. Cross School Council and Parents’ Association, the School Council is in need of someone to volunteer to audit the yearly financial statements. If you are able to help out with this task, please contact the school council at aecrosscouncil@gmail.com.

We have had a very busy time around A.E. Cross School over the past few weeks. Some of the highlights include:

  • Que Pasa – our Grade 9 Spanish Bilingual Program students participated in the Calgary Board of Education’s annual celebration of Spanish Language and Culture at the Jubilee Auditorium on May 6.
  • Band Program – Our senior band experienced band camp in Banff at the end of April and our Grade 7 band represented our school in a festival at Mount Royal University on May 8.
  • Colts Badminton – Grade 8 and Grade 9 students competed over the past two weeks at Vincent Massey and came out with several ribbons for their performances. A special congratulations goes out to Harper and Leo in Grade 9 who placed first in the singles categories.

A couple of reminders for parents of Grade 9 students:

  • Provincial Achievement Tests – students have been working hard in preparation for these tests. The first test is English Language Arts (Part A) and it will occur on Thursday, May 29. The remainder of the PATs will occur during the middle of June.
  • Grade 9 Farewell – students have received forms regarding the farewell that is occurring on Friday, June 6. We would encourage you to sign the permission forms and log into MyCBE and pay the $15 fee for that event.

We hope that you have a fantastic week! ¡Esperamos que tengas una semana fantástica!
