Supervision

Supervision is not provided before or after school hours. Supervision is provided during school hours which also includes nutrition break and at lunch. All students are required to exit the building after school unless in a school sponsored activity, sport, club, etc. There is no supervision before or after school hours unless students are taking part in a school sponsored event.

Student Washrooms

There are student washrooms on the upper and lower floors (Maximum of 3 students at a time). There is also a gender neutral bathroom located across from Room 29 & 30. Bathrooms are a NO Technology Zone.

Visitors in the School

All visitors (past students and guardians) to the school must have a booked appointment, and proceed to the Main Office!

Students may not bring guests to their classrooms for liability reasons.

Students Leaving School During School Hours

Legal guardian(s) are required to send a note with their child to gain permission for the student to leave during school hours for an appointment, likewise to explain a student’s late or absence.

Student absence or late must be phoned in by guardian at the Attendance Line at: 403-777-7410, ext. 1

Upon arrival at the school legal guardians are to follow this procedure:

  • Ring buzzer once
  • Identify yourself—full name
  • Reason for arriving at school
  • Identify student(s) - full name and grade
  • Wait outside of school for student to be sent out

Students who need to leave the school for various reasons (e.g. medical or dental appointments) must provide a note from a parent and check out with their teacher and then sign out at the Main Office. No student will be allowed to leave school without the consent of the parents/guardians.

Students are required to:

  • Show their classroom teacher the note, so the teacher is aware that the student will be leaving early
  • Come to the office to hand-in the note
  • Leave the classroom a few minutes before time of pick-up by Legal Guardian
  • Complete the sign-out sheet
  • Office staff will let student know when their pick-up has arrived at the front doors
  • Wait, quietly on the bench outside the office for pick-up.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology where it enhances safety of students, staff, or others, or deters damage to CBE property or assets; where circumstances have shown that it is necessary for these purposes, and its benefits outweigh the impact on the privacy of those affected. Privacy law, specifically, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) requires that CBE demonstrate that the proposed installation and use of video surveillance technology (VST) is necessary to resolve pressing and substantial business interests (based on evidence of verifiable and identifiable issues). VST is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff. Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
