Below you will find the latest edition of the Colts’ Community Chronicle. Please note that this Friday, February 28 is a non-instructional day for students.
On Feb. 19, 2025, CUPE Local 40 served 72-hour strike notice to the CBE. This means that the union will withdraw services beginning Monday, Feb. 24, 2025. During strike action, CBE is prioritizing in-person learning. We are committed to supporting student learning and well-being while maintaining safe and welcoming school environments for students, staff and families. During strike action, all CBE schools and buildings will remain open and classes will continue. For further information and updates, I would encourage you to visit the CBE Labour Action Website.
There are a few new clubs that are starting up for students to participate in during lunch hours:
- Construction Club (Mr. Ford) – Mondays and Wednesdays at Lunch (Sign up required)
- Book Club (Ms. Anderson) – Mondays at Lunch in Room 22
- E-Sports Clubs – Mondays (Grade 9), Wednesdays (Grade 8), Thursdays (Grade 7) in Room 17
Next week, our Well-Being team is providing A.E. Cross with “A Week of Awesome Tees”:
- On Monday, Feb 24, wear a shirt with your favorite color
- Tuesday, Feb 25, wear your favourite band tee OR wear your favourite jersey. Find someone with a matching t-shirt and connect over your shared interests! Spread kindness!
- Wednesday, Feb 26, come to Chew and Chat AND wear your pink shirt to support anti-bullying!
- Thursday, Feb 27, Culture or Colts day! Wear something that represents you culture or something that represents AE Cross!

Athletics
Physical Education
The expectations for our PE classes are that students will change their tops and bottoms as well as footwear if it is unsafe (sandal, crocs, high heels, boots, etc.). Please send appropriate active wear to school with your students. Students have access to their own gym locker where they can leave their gym clothes for the week before taking them home over the weekend. This expectation is to teach students how to be healthy and hygienic.
Colts’ Volleyball
Thank you for cheering on our Colt athletes during our two home games this week. They truly appreciate you support! Parents, please pay the team fees as soon as possible.
Spectators
Spectators Attendance at athletic games will be limited to parents/guardians of those athletes directly involved in the event. Students will not be permitted to attend athletic games unless they are the siblings of one of the athletes and are accompanied by a parent/guardian. Access will be limited to the gymnasium; no access will be permitted to other parts of the school.
Be Brave Hitmen Hockey Game
On February 26, 30 students will experience the Be Brave Hockey game at the Saddledome. Students will receive their offsite forms on Tuesday. Parents, please sign and return them to Mr. Richards as soon as possible.
Calgary Surge Basketball Game
Students who have registered for this May 7 game have received parent letters with trip details. Their is a $36 fee for this trip this year. Parents please make that payment by Feb 24. This is our deadline to confirm our total ticket numbers. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Richards, jarichards@cbe.ab.ca

A.E. Cross E-Sports Club
Do your child love gaming? For the next month, we will have a pilot E-Sports Club on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at lunch. Join us for some Mario Kart & Super Smash Bros!
