Good afternoon families! ¡Buenas tardes familias! We hope that you are enjoying the first day of autumn! It is amazing to think that the month of September is nearly over! The school continues to be a busy place of learning and other activities.
On Thursday, September 19, we were honoured to welcome the MLA of Calgary-Currie, Janet Eremenko to A.E. Cross School. While the focus of her visit was to observe Spanish Bilingual programming at the school, she also was impressed by our Grade 7 students skills in Design Studies, Construction and Foods and she finished her visit in a Grade 9 Humanities class where students asked her questions about the democratic process.
This Thursday, A.E. Cross will acknowledge Orange Shirt Day. This past Friday, students in their homerooms learned about the origins and significance of this important day. We encourage all members of the A.E. Cross school community to wear an Orange Shirt on Thursday to honour the thousands of Indigenous Survivors of residential schools. We would also encourage all families to attend the City of Calgary’s ceremony on Monday, September 30 to commemorate Indian residential school victims, honour survivors and their families, and commit to acting on reconciliation. The ceremony begins at 9:00 AM at the Confluence Historic Site and Parkland (formerly known as Fort Calgary).
This past week, 2023-2024 yearbooks were handed out to students who purchased one last year. We have a small number of leftover yearbooks that we will be selling to families for $30.00. If you would like a copy of the 2023-2024, please fill out the form below. If there are more students wanting a yearbook than the number of yearbooks that are available, a lottery will be completed. As a note, planning for the 2024-2025 yearbook has already begun and ordering details for this year’s edition will be coming shortly.

Please note that this Friday, September 27 is a non-instructional day for students throughout the Calgary Board of Education. Additionally, there is no school for students on Monday, September 30 in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Next week’s Colts’ Community Chronicle will be sent on Monday, September 30.
We hope that you have a great week
Sincerely,
Randy Lewis
