Principal's Message

Good afternoon families and happy March! ¡Buenas tardes familias y feliz marzo!

March has certainly come in like a lion this year and we hope that you have been able to stay warm this weekend! As we have been experiencing periods of melting followed by temperatures below zero, there are patches of ice throughout our school field. I would encourage all of our students to be extra cautious when walking around our school field. Additionally, please make sure that students are sent to school appropriately dressed for the weather as students are still expected to be outside during the second part of our lunch time.

Below is the latest edition of the Colts' Community Chronicle. Of particular note, our volleyball teams will be playing their last regular season games this week with playoffs scheduled from March 11 to March 14. Additionally, there is some information about Parent-Teacher Conferences that are occurring later this month. Conferences will be held during the evening on Thursday, March 21 and throughout the day on Friday, March 22. Information about booking appointments with teachers is included in the Chronicle below. As always, our teachers are willing to have discussions about your child's learning at any time. I would encourage you to reach out to teachers via email to initiate a conversation.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting student learning, our next round of RTI (Response to Intervention) periods will surround the support of students' literacy, numeracy and well-being. Students have been divided into one of the three grouping based on report card marks from January. Students have been identified as needing further supports in literacy and numeracy and teachers will be working with these students to build comfort and confidence in these areas over the next 6 weeks. Students who have demonstrated a well-developed or a mastery level of understanding in ELA - Reading, ELA - Writing and Math - Number will focus their RTI time on improving student well-being.

We hope that your children have a wonderful week of learning at A.E. Cross School! ¡Esperamos que sus hijos tengan una maravillosa semana de aprendizaje en A.E. Cross School!

Sincerely,

Randy Lewis
Principal, A.E. Cross School

Spanish Bilingual Program

El Club del Español

Students have the opportunity to join "El Club del Español" to learn some Spanish or be a leader helping Sra. Hernández and Sra. Molina.

The Spanish Club will run every Wednesday after lunch. ¡Nos vemos!

Locura de Marzo

Music is one of the best ways to share tradition and culture so, we are taking part in the Spanish song contest "Locura de Marzo" to see what of the proposed songs is the preferred one at our school.

Students can follow the bracket in the bulletin board by the Main Office and vote using our school Instagram. Two different songs will compete every three days for the next coming weeks. ¡Qué comience la Locura de Marzo!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parents/Guardians will be able to book conferences beginning on Thursday March 14, at 4:00PM. The conference bookings tool will register you to meet with 1 teacher at a time. This means that you will have to make multiple bookings if you desire to meet with more than 1 of your child's teachers, or to talk about different courses. We value the role that your child plays in their learning, and strongly encourage all students to attend conferences with their parent/guardian.

Format

Thursday March 21, 5:00-8:00PM, all conferences will be in-person at A. E. Cross School Friday March 22, 9:00AM-2:00PM, all conferences will be online via Microsoft Teams and a link will be emailed directly to you after you book a time slot.

Each conference meeting will be 10 minutes in length.

Please refer to this website, MyCBE - School Conferences, for instructions on how to book a conference through your MyCBE account. Should you have any difficulties or questions, please phone the main office and school staff can assist you. If you will require language interpreter services, please let your child's teacher know ahead of time so that they can request an interpreter to attend.

The conference booking tool will be closed on Tuesday March 19 at 9:00PM. It is important to ensure that you book your conferences prior to then.

School Council

The next school council meeting is scheduled in person on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm in the Learning Commons of A.E. Cross School.

Additional meeting dates will be at 7pm on Thursdays. Watch your email for meeting invitations which will include agendas and meeting location (in person or virtual) the week prior to the meeting.
