Good afternoon families! ¡Buenas tardes familias! We hope that you have been able to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather that this weekend has provided!
It is hard to believe that this week marks the half way point of the 2023-2024 school year. We are happy to report that beginning on Wednesday, January 31, we will have a new full-time teacher joining A.E. Cross to work with our students. Maddison Neill has been hired and will be teaching Grade 7, 8, and 9 Physical Education classes. Ms. Neill will be taking over the following Physical Education classes:
- Grade 7 - Mr. Ford - Period 1
- Grade 8 - Ms. Shumay - Period 3
- Grade 9 - Ms. Shumay - Period 6
With this new hire, we will be able to provide further supports to our learning community in the form of English as an Additional Language small group instruction as well as providing all students a resource room that can be accessed to refocus and receive additional support on assessments.
With that milestone comes some important dates that all families need to be aware of.
- Tuesday, January 30 - Report Cards are visible on MyCBE
- Over the past few weeks, our teachers have worked to prepare report cards for their students. We will not be printing report cards for all students but please contact the main office if you would like a printed copy of your child's report card. Our staff is always willing to discuss student achievement with parents so don't hesitate to reach out to teachers should you have questions about your child's report card.
- Wednesday, January 31 - Semester 2 Courses Begin
- Students will begin new complementary courses on Wednesday. It is important that students check their MyCBE/PowerSchool account as there may have been slight alterations to timetables from the beginning of the year.
- Our Grade 9 Physical Education team has regrouped students into new classroom arrangements as a result of Ms. Neill being hired at A.E. Cross School so grade 9 students may end up having a different Physical Education/Health teacher than they would have had in first semester.
- Students will begin new complementary courses on Wednesday. It is important that students check their MyCBE/PowerSchool account as there may have been slight alterations to timetables from the beginning of the year.
Within this week's Community Chronicle, there are dates that Grade 9 students should pay attention to as they relate to high school. Of particular importance is an information session about Calgary Board of Education's Unique Pathways program on Wednesday, Feburary 7 at the Career and Technology Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
As always, we thank you for all of the support that you provide A.E. Cross and the school community. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.
We hope that you have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Randy Lewis
Principal, A.E. Cross School
