The final Colts’ Community Chronicle of 2024 will be sent next Sunday, Dec. 15. The first Chronicle of 2025 to prepare families for the return of students to school following Winter Break will be sent on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Below you will find the latest edition of the Colts’ Community Chronicle. Last week you received a message regarding our annual Project Kindness campaign to support families within the school community. There is a message from the A.E. Cross School Council below that provides you more information about the campaign.

Additionally, Alberta Education has released the dates for the 2025 Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests that take place in the spring. Below is a letter from the school that outlines the PAT program. The dates for these tests are as follows:

  • Thursday, May 29 – English Language Arts (Part A – Written Response)
  • Thursday, June 12 – English Language Arts (Part B – Reading Comprehension)
  • Friday, June 13 – Mathematics (Part A)
  • Tuesday, June 17 – Mathematics (Part B)
  • Wednesday, June 18 – Social Studies
  • Thursday, June 19 – Science

Athletics

Colts’ Basketball

Student athletes should pay attention to announcements regarding wrap up parties for teams. These will be organized once all team fees are paid. 

Colts’ Wrestling

Colts’ Wrestling AEC will host its annual wrestling quad next Thursday, Dec. 12. The quad will run from 4:45-7pm. Student spectators are allowed to watch as long as they have a guardian supervising them at all times.

Practices will occur:

  • Monday after school from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Wednesday before school from 8:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Friday before school from 8:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Wrestling Quad Meets
    • Dec. 12 – 4:45 pm at A.E. Cross School
    • Jan. 15 – 4:45 pm at Vincent Massey School
  • Wrestling Divisional Meet
    • Jan. 28 – Genesis Center

Colts’ Volleyball

Volleyball season will begin immediately after winter break in January. Please have your child pay attention to announcements coming up over the next couple of weeks for meeting and try out information. We look forward to seeing our Colts’ student athletes out on the court in the New Year!

Art Club

The last day for Art Club before Winter Break will be Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 Art Club will resume on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 – the third week we are back from Winter Break.

2025 Provincial Achievement Tests

The dates for the 2025 Provincial Achievement Tests have been released by Alberta Education. Attached to this message is letter to parents explaining the Provincial Achievement Test program for students. Below is the 2025 PAT schedule:

  • Thursday, May 29 – English Language Arts (Part A – Written Response)
  • Thursday, June 12 – English Language Arts (Part B – Reading Comprehension)
  • Friday, June 13 – Mathematics (Part A)
  • Tuesday, June 17 – Mathematics (Part B)

Student Learning Supports

A.E. Cross School is happy to provide the following learning supports for students. I would encourage you to remind your children of these opportunities so that they are able to be as successful as possible. All grades are welcome in each of the spaces below.

  • Math Help Room – Room 26 (Mr. Reid) – Mondays 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm
  • Math Help Room – Room 6 (Mr. Virjee) – Tuesdays 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm
  • Homework Hotel – Learning Commons – Wednesdays – 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm
  • Math Help Room – Room 33 (Mr. Tyrrell) – Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lunch

Spanish Bilingual Program

Last Wednesday Nov. 27, Spanish Bilingual Grade 9 students hosted Glenmeadows Grade 5 and Grade 6. Students had the opportunity to build community by playing games in Spanish and touring the school. ¡Fue un día maravilloso! 

Also last Thursday Nov. 28 Spanish Bilingual Grade 9 students attending the Crescent Heights Tour with the other Bilingual Junior Highs and English Program feeders.

We had the chance to visit many of the locations for options and classrooms that gave students a nice glance of what High School could be for them next year.
