Good afternoon Colt families! We hope that you had a chance to get outside and enjoy the wonderful weather that we have had so far this weekend! ¡Buenas tardes, familias de Colt! Esperamos que hayan tenido la oportunidad de salir y disfrutar del maravilloso clima que hemos tenido este fin de semana.
This week is Education Week in Alberta. Education Week is a celebration of community. The school is not just a building in the neighbourhood, it is the foundation of the community. The first Alberta School Week (Education Week) was held December 2–8, 1928. Now, Education Week is from April 7-11, but the purpose remains the same. Education Week celebrates the importance of education and the remarkable things happening in Alberta schools.
Below you will find the latest edition of the Colts’ Community Chronicle. There is lots of important information in this week’s message including:
- Process for Complementary Course Selection for the 2025-2026 school year
- All students in Grade 7 and Grade 8 have been provided with a Complementary Course Selection form. The form is required to be signed by parents/guardians, and is due back to Homeroom teachers by Thursday April 17, 2025. This is an opportunity for students, and their families, to determine their Top 6 complimentary course requests for next year. The courses that students request will be entered into PowerSchool during class time from April 22 - May 2. Our 2025/2026 timetable will be built around student requests and teacher staffing. Not all course requests will be fulfilled. Course enrolment will be dependent on student numbers and course availability within our timetable. Please support your student with choosing courses that they are interested in pursuing. If the Complementary Course Selection form is not returned, students will be placed into complementary courses based on where space remains available.
- Empowering Teen Girl Workshops – these are NO-COST workshops
- Building Female Leaders for the Future
- Providing Essential Clothing for Teen Girls
We strongly encourage you to take a look at your child’s MyCBE account as Semester 2 fees for complementary courses have been assigned to accounts and those fees are now due. Additionally, any athletic fees or field trips fees are found on MyCBE. These fees are used to provide valuable and engaging learning experiences for your children.
Below, you will also find a notification from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police regarding an online group that are targeting and manipulating children and youth across widely accessible online platforms to participate in acts of violence. I also have included a document entitled Raising Digitally Responsible Youth. There is lots of good information about the types of social media that your child may be accessing. The document gives parents tips about helping their children navigate their online world. At A.E. Cross, we will continue to work with our students so that can demonstrate responsible digital citizenship.
We hope that you have a great week!
