Good afternoon Colt families! We hope that you are enjoying a fantastic weekend! ¡Buenas tardes, familias de Colt! ¡Esperamos que estén disfrutando de un fin de semana fantástico!

This upcoming week is the last week prior to Spring Break. There will be no Colts' Community Chronicle sent out next weekend. The next Chronicle will be sent at noon on Sunday, March 30. Also, please note that this Friday is a non-instructional day for students as our staff will be spending the day speaking with families about student learning through Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Here are a couple of important informational items for you to be aware of:

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences (March 20 and March 21)
    • Parents/Guardians will be able to book conferences beginning on Thursday March 13, at 4:00PM. The conference bookings tool will register you to meet with 1 teacher at a time. This means that you will have to make multiple bookings if you desire to meet with more than 1 of your child's teachers, or to talk about different courses.  We value the role that your child plays in their learning, and strongly encourage all students to attend conferences with their parent/guardian.
    • Format
      • Thursday March 20, 5:30-8:00PM
      • Friday March 21, 9:00AM-2:00PM
      • All conferences will be online via Microsoft Teams and a link will be emailed directly to you after you book a time slot. Each conference meeting will be 10 minutes in length.
    • Please refer to this website, MyCBE - School Conferences, for instructions on how to book a conference through your MyCBE account. Should you have any difficulties or questions, please phone the main office and school staff can assist you. If you will require language interpreter services, please let your child's teacher know ahead of time so that they can request an interpreter to attend.
    • The conference booking tool will be closed to parents on Tuesday March 18 at 11:59PM. It is important to ensure that you book your conferences prior to then.
  • 2024-2025 A.E. Cross School Yearbook
    • You still have the opportunity to purchase this year's edition of the yearbook. To order a yearbook for the 2024-2025, please visit the following site:

Grade 9 Transitions Mini Round Dance

CBE Indigenous Education Team invites all Indigenous Grade 9 students, their families, and staff to participate in a Mini-Round Dance to celebrate and honour their transition to high school. Indigenous knowledges and protocols acknowledge the child to young adulthood phase as significant. Key teachings focus on responsibility as youth move forward in all aspects of their lives (spirit, heart, body, mind) and where education is critical to their success. The Round Dance will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Ernest Manning High School (20 Springborough BLVD SW)

Student Surveys

In Math and Science classes over the next couple of weeks, students will have the opportunity to complete surveys to give administration a better understanding of things that are working well at A.E. Cross and areas that could be improved.

Grade 7 students will complete the Alberta Assurance Survey and Grade 8 and 9 students will complete the CBE Student Survey.

We look forward to gathering student voice so that we can continue to improve student learning experiences at A.E. Cross School.

Parent Surveys

As part of the ongoing commitment to providing a world-class education for Alberta’s children, Alberta Education will again be conducting their annual survey of grades 4, 7 and 10 students and their parents or guardians. The completion of the survey is voluntary and anonymous, as is completion of each question within the survey. The survey will gather important information about students’ and parents’ school experiences and will help to inform continuous improvement in our education system. The survey will also be sent to all teachers in the province. In some schools, all students in grades 4 and above – and their parents or guardians – will be surveyed.

To fill out the survey, please click on the survey link and enter the code below to begin the survey. If you have more than one student in grades 4, 7, and 10, you will need to do the survey for each child. In this case, you will receive a separate email with a different code for each child, be sure to check your junk or spam folder for separate emails. Please know that only one Random Access Code(RAC) is provided per child for parents and only one parent response can be submitted as RACs are single use.

Your RAC would have been emailed to you in late February from the Calgary Board of Education. Survey Webpage: https://public.education.alberta.ca/APOS/

At. A. E. Cross School, we believe that community voices are an important contribution to student success. We are asking families to participate in a short survey to gather feedback from families for the purposes of school planning. The survey will available online from Mon Feb 24 - Sat March 22. We are looking for your ideas and reflections about the School Development Plan, the school budget, and school fees. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Spanish Bilingual Program

The AE Cross Carnival is back! We're celebrating a great tradition from the Hispanic and beyond cultures. Students had a glimpse of these celebrations during RTI on Friday and will have the opportunity to take part in some related Spirit Motifs next week.

¡Feliz Carnaval! 9-7 will represent AE Cross at the event ¿Qué pasa?. The ten schools at the CBE Spanish Bilingual Program will showcase a performance to celebrate some of the folklore and language in an afternoon of celebrations at the Jubilee Auditorium on May 6th. Save the date! (More information coming soon) For this purpose, Sra. Vicky Velasco from the company "Gato Negro" is working with students and Sra. Hernández to create an unique version of the classic "El Quijote de la Mancha."

Talking about Hispanic cultures... ¡Locura de Marzo is back! This musical event will have two songs contesting for a couple of days. Students and teachers will vote to see who is the AE Cross Locura Champion!
