Good afternoon everybody! We hope that the first week of school went well for all of our students. It was great seeing everybody’s smiling faces throughout the hallways this past week! ¡Buenas tardes a todos! Esperamos que la primera semana de clases haya ido bien para todos nuestros alumnos. ¡Fue maravilloso ver las sonrisas de todos en los pasillos la semana pasada!

Below is the latest edition of the Colts’ Community Chronicle. There are a couple of items that I want to highlight:

  • Colts’  Athletics – Soccer and Cross-Country running began last week and basketball begins this week. Please make sure to complete the Annual Authorization Try Out form that you can find here: Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout
  • School Forms – each year, families are required to complete Student Demographic Verification Forms. These forms are found on your child’s MyCBE account and need to be completed by September 15, 2025. If you are having difficulty completing these on-line, please let us know and we will supply a hard copy of this form to your child.
  • Terry Fox Run – our school community is raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation. Within the Chronicle, there are links for each grade to contribute on-line donations. At different levels of donations, staff at A.E. Cross will volunteer to be pied or have their head or face shaved. Our school goal for 2025 is $2000. Let’s get to that total!

During Friday’s RTI Block, our staff worked with students in identifying strategies to improve their Executive Functioning. These strategies will be reinforced at school throughout the year, but we would love if you could also remind students of these different ways that may make their year at school a little bit easier:

  • Organization
    • Use a planner/calendar – could be paper or digital
    • Maintain tidy backpack/locker – weekly clean up is needed!
    • Have routines and “Launch Pads” at home
      • A “Launch Pad” is a place in your home where you put your backpack, your lunch, any homework that is due
      • Could be a table near the door, a desk in your room, the kitchen counter
  • Time Management
    • Break big tasks into smaller steps – don’t be overwhelmed!
    • Set timers for your work periods – use technology to help you!
    • Set alarms to remind you when you need to go somewhere
      • Very important before school and at lunch so that you’re not late for class
    • Organize for school the night before so you are not rushed and stressed in the morning
  • Focus and Self-Control
    • Remove distractions such as phones and work in a quiet, organized space – maybe remove yourself from distracting friends
    • Practice positive self-talk – “I can play that game once I finish this task.”
    • Set small achievable goals every time that you sit down to work

Thank you for all of your support of our school. If you have any questions, please let us know. Have a wonderful week! Gracias por todo su apoyo a nuestra escuela. Si tienen alguna pregunta, por favor, hágannosla saber. ¡Que tengan una semana maravillosa!
