Good afternoon A.E. Cross families! Below you will find the latest edition of the Colts’ Community Chronicle and it is full of important information for you and your child! ¡Buenas tardes familias de A.E. Cross! ¡A continuación encontrará la última edición de la Crónica de la comunidad de los Colts y está llena de información importante para usted y su hijo!

There are a few important items that I would like to share with you:

  • Human Sexuality Unit in Health Class – beginning March 10, students will be learning the human sexuality component of health during their Physical Education class. Below you will find a letter outlining the outcomes that teachers will be covering for each grade during this unit. If you DO NOT want your child to learn these Human Sexuality outcomes in class, please fill out the form that is attached and have your child submit it to their Physical Education teacher prior to March 10. If you require a paper copy of the form to submit, please let your child’s Phys Ed teacher know.
  • Student Surveys – over the next couple of weeks, students will be completing either the Alberta Education Assurance Survey (Grade 7 Students) or the CBE Student Survey (Grade 8 and 9 students). These surveys provide us with student voice about their experiences at A.E. Cross School. We then use this information to plan for next year and to improve student learning at A.E. Cross. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in the surveys, please respond to this email and we will relay that information to your child’s teacher.
  • Parent Surveys – we would strongly encourage you to provide your feedback and voice on student learning at A.E. Cross School
    • If you are the parent/guardian of a grade 7 student, you should have received an email from the Calgary Board of Education regarding the Alberta Education Assurance Survey. This email would include a Random Access Code that is needed to access the survey.
    • At. A. E. Cross School, we believe that community voices are an important contribution to student success. We are asking families to participate in a short survey to gather feedback from families for the purposes of school planning. The survey will available online from Mon Feb 24 - Sat March 22. We are looking for your ideas and reflections about the School Development Plan, the school budget, and school fees. Thank you for your time and consideration.
    • Access survey here
  • Finally, if your child WILL NOT be attending A.E. Cross in September 2025, please let us know so that we have accurate enrolment numbers for planning purposes.

Thank you for your attention to each of these above items. We hope that you have a wonderful week!

Athletics

Physical Education

The expectations for our PE classes are that students will change their tops and bottoms as well as footwear if it is unsafe (sandal, crocs, high heels, boots, etc.). Please send appropriate active wear to school with your students. Students have access to their own gym locker where they can leave their gym clothes for the week before taking them home over the weekend. This expectation is to teach students how to be healthy and hygienic.

Colts’ Volleyball

The Colts’ volleyball teams have now completed their regular seasons. We are waiting to find out whether they have qualified for playoffs this year. Playoffs begin the week of March 10.

Spectators

Attendance at athletic games will be limited to parents/guardians of those athletes directly involved in the event. Students will not be permitted to attend athletic games unless they are the siblings of one of the athletes and are accompanied by a parent/guardian. Access

Calgary Surge Basketball Game

Students attending this trip should have paid their fees as the deadline was February 26. If your child is registered and you have not paid, you should have received an email from Mr. Lewis on Friday. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Richards, jarichards@cbe.ab.ca.

Student Surveys

In Math and Science classes over the next couple of weeks, students will have the opportunity to complete surveys to give administration a better understanding of things that are working well at A.E. Cross and areas that could be improved.

Grade 7 students will complete the Alberta Assurance Survey and Grade 8 and 9 students will complete the CBE Student Survey.

We look forward to gathering student voice so that we can continue to improve student learning experiences at A.E. Cross School.
